All Of The Lazy Sundays In The World

Well, not really. Just a round-up of many of them. A quick timeline:

The Chris Parnell/Andy Samberg short Lazy Sunday ran on Saturday Night Live on December 17th.

The first recording of it on YouTube seems to have appeared on December 18th.

I saw the first reference to an online version in my e-mail inbox on December 21st.

By December 23rd, the short was made available for free download via iTunes(note: you need the iTunes software to download it).

The New York Times covered it extensively on December 27th.

It's now February 7th, less than two months from when the short first aired on television. Today I count at least a baker's dozen of videos online inspired by Lazy Sunday in one form or another. Some dub new audio over the video, some add flash or their own video over the audio, and some are full remakes.

Read on for a representative sampling of what's out there.

  • A West Coast Response - This was the first one that caught my eye. Thanks to Erik Pelletier for sending me the link.
  • Original Audio with New Video - Two young kids imitating Parnell and Samberg.
  • Another with New Video - Same idea, this time done by two teenage girls.
  • A Full Remake - New audio, new video, billed as showing "all the exciting things two youth workers do on their mondays off."
  • Not The Most Thorough - This one falls apart before it starts.
  • An A For Sincerity - This one is sort of Karaoke-style, with only one camera angle. But I like the enthusiasm and shamelessness on display here.
  • Anime Overdubbed - Clips from Anime shows with the original audio.
  • Live at an Open Mic - Two teens rap along to the backing tracks. Hardly the "most amazing thing you have EVER SEEN" that it claims to be.
  • ...And My Favorite - Two little kids do their best to rap the original lyrics over the original video and a similar backing track.

Did I miss any good ones?

Thank you so much for the info about RSS. Just as I was beginning my search to find out what RSS is I found your blog. (Theres a link on my Earthlink start page) and right before my eyes, all the info I needed to get started. I downloaded a reader for Firefox and so far I'm loving it.

Ok, now you've done it! You've got this boring 40-something sharing the west coast version and checking Youtube every day for any new interpretations. Even snagged the lyrics from narniarapbattle.com.

This would be good "tipping" subject matter for Malcolm Gladwell.

At least I was able to refrain from pulling out the video camera and making a real fool of myself.

True. True dat. ;)

lol lol lol
