Note: The below is an archived entry from Earthling, formerly EarthLink's official blog. The blog itself has been decommissioned and is no longer updated, and comments are trackbacks are no longer accepted.
If you already have an AOL Instant Messenger, Jabber, Yahoo Messenger, or MSN Messenger account (Sean, how about supporting MindSpring?), you've got what you need to dip your toe into the personal publishing world. If you also already have a blog or web site presence, this how-to can benefit you as well.
I'm making an exception to the strict "no robot" policy on Earthling for Sabifoo, an instant messenger bot who is built to serve your personal publishing needs. Read on for care and feeding instructions.
It's pretty simple.
Add Sabifoo as a buddy to your buddy list, just like he was a person. On AIM and Yahoo Messenger, add the name "sabifoo". On Jabber or MSN Messenger, add "sabifoo@sabifoo.com".
Now type a message in your instant messaging software and hit "send". You just published a message to your own web page, *and* you created an RSS feed that you could put in an RSS reader, give to others, or receive and publish on a web site.
To find your new web site, go to one of these sites you've just created:
AIM - http://web.sabifoo.com/get/aim/youraimname (replace youraimname with your actual AIM screen name)
Jabber - http://web.sabifoo.com/get/jabber/yourjabberaddress (replace yourjabberaddress with your full jabber address)
MSN - http://web.sabifoo.com/get/msn/yourmsnname (replace yourmsnname with your full msn address)
Yahoo - http://web.sabifoo.com/get/yahoo/youryahooname (replace youryahooname with your full yahoo messenger address)
And iIf you already have a web site that lets you edit the code or add a snippet, you can go a lot further with this. There's a pretty solid list of ways to put RSS feeds on your web site here. If you want more details on how to get these technologies to work together, let me know in the comments and I'll expand the how-to. Basically, the RSS feed for your particular content would be the same as the URL above. Just replace "web" in web.sabifoo.com with "rss", like:
http://rss.sabifoo.com/get/aim/youraimname
Oh, and there are also more advanced commands if you find you want to do more with it, like delete posts and such.
It's easy to get started this way without spending lots of time setting up a new user account or configuring a blog template. If you find you like personal publishing, there are lots of ways you can start something and really make it your own.
Found on the Mashable blog.

Hey, I wonder how you can change or delete a post? Seems to be just one way.

According to the help page, it looks like you can either delete an individual message by telling Sabifoo "delete (replace this with the message number)", or delete them all by telling it !delete_all_messages_forever.
It's not a full-featured blogging suite by any stretch, but it's a great first step.
