Note: The below is an archived entry from Earthling, formerly EarthLink's official blog. The blog itself has been decommissioned and is no longer updated, and comments are trackbacks are no longer accepted.
Shortly after I published the article about EarthLink stepping in to try to help with the New Orleans Municipal Wi-Fi network, I heard about a few more ways to help out the city.
- Former EarthLinker Lance Weatherby wrote me about a conference called Brain Jams. It's taking place in New Orleans on May 4th, right around Jazzfest time. Here's what Brain Jams is about:
BrainJams New Orleans will focus on empowering the small business' that are the backbone of any local economy with the knowledge they need to take advantage of Web 2.0 and social media tools for the purpose of operating their business' more efficiently and communicating with their customers more effectively.
I'll be there provided I can get away from Earthling for a couple of days, and there should be a few other EarthLink folks there as well.
- Atlanta blogger Grayson Daughters wrote about using EarthLink to show your support for New Orleans.
She wrote:
One place you can go for temporary shelter from this storm is to Earthlink instead of BellSouth. Earthlink, bless their little ATL-based hearts, has risen to the occasion and stepped in to help the City of New Orleans in their time of need. Go Earthlink go!
Thanks Grayson!
- And at the Fluke Mini Comics Festival in Athens this past weekend, I found out about an excellent comic book anthology you can buy for ten dollars, with proceeds going to the Red Cross' relief efforts in New Orleans.
