Note: The below is an archived entry from Earthling, formerly EarthLink's official blog. The blog itself has been decommissioned and is no longer updated, and comments are trackbacks are no longer accepted.
The previous Battle of the Blogs pitted What's That Bug against the LAPD blog. Bugs beat cops 24-10, and as is the custom, the winning blog won a spot over in the "recommended sites" section on the right side of Earthling's home page.
This time around it's more of a battle royale. There are a ton of blogs that specialize in answering reader questions. I've suggested previously that you can use experts (or non-experts) instead of search engines sometimes when you want to ask the internet something. And recently Yahoo Answers has started to do the reverse -- get famous people like Stephen Hawking and Bono ask questions to the regular joes of the internet. But this poll is about people who put a shingle out inviting their readers to ask them stuff, and publish the questions and answers as the blog itself.
In this battle I aim to (a)discover new "Ask so-and-so" blogs that I don't know about, and (b)find out which reigns supreme in the field as far as Earthling readers are concerned. Please familiarize yourself with the combatants before voting, and ask yourself, "Which of these am I most likely to visit again or most often?"
Feel free to add an option to the poll if there's an "Ask" site not listed here that should be included. To do that, click discuss this poll at Quimble and use "add another option" there. The poll will run for one week.
[Inspired by my discovery of the just-born Ask A Japanese Person vlog over on Screenhead.]

I actually tried to gave each blog a fair shot, but in the end there was no beating the Japanese.

I am turning to you because I don't know what else to do. I have a blog on Typepad and this week I began experiencing problems. I was no longer receiving my comments via email. I removed all spam filters, etc. This did nothing to resolve the issue.
After a long drawn out battle with Typepad, they have instructed me that the problem is because I am an earthlink customer. They have instructed me to choose another company for my email service and that this would likely resolve the problem immediatly.
Here is the most recent response they have sent me via their help ticket documentation:
Hi Kris,
We are providing you with the most recent information we have about the problem with some users not receiving emails from the system. When we know how the issue was resolved, we add provide more detailed information to your ticket.
All tickets submitted to the system are reviewed by the entire team, including senior admins. With problems that affect a large number of users, like the email problems, we do discuss the issue in detail as a team before responding to tickets.
If you change the email address associated with your account, you should begin to receive comment notification emails again. Most of the users reporting the problem have earthlink.net email addresses. All of the free email services, like gmail.com and yahoo.com, are not experiencing this issue. Please do not think that issue is less of a priority because it is not affecting all users. It is still on the top of our list for resolution as quickly as possible.
The problem you encountered with Comments not be posted today is a different issue. We experienced an unexplained database problem early this morning causing the application to be unavailable for most of the day. The system has since been restored.
Any comments submitted to your weblog between 12:30AM - until about 8 PM tonight would not be posted successfully.
For more information about the downtime, the TypePad news blog has been updated:

Please let us know if you have any other questions or problems.
Thanks,
Jen
I like being an earthlink customer. But I also want this issue resolved. Is there anything earthlink can do to work these issues out with Typepad? Or, am I stuck and actually have to choose between moving my blog or ending my relationship with earthlink? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Kris

Hi Kris, I've posted this reply over at your blog too:
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm going to look into this on our side and poke around on their side and try to find out what's going on and how we can fix it quickly.
Heh, and nobody's mad over here, on the contrary I'm glad you got in touch. I don't have the resources to serve as customer service or tech. support myself, but in cases like this I can certainly help find a solution.
I generally prefer that you use e-mail rather than comments if you're writing about something off-topic (just to keep the conversations focused), but I imagine if you were new to the blog you probably figured it wouldn't get attention unless it was in a comment. I'll leave your comment where it is until we figure out what's going on, and then maybe i'll move it into a blog entry of its own.
