Not only was Cyberball part of the exhibit, but when I got to the machine there were two other rabid Cyberball fans duking it out, including Associate Creative Director Charlie Short of Exopolis. I told Charlie I was just about ready to kiss the Cyberball machine when I saw it, and he looked at me a little funny but he understood. He said he'd heard about the exhibit two weeks ago, and the first thing that he wanted to know what whether or not there would be a Cyberball machine. They had Cyberball at the Brown University arcade down the street from where I grew up, and I spent many a high school sunday plunking in 8 tokens to take on all challengers. There's even an online league that grew up around it (which sadly appears to be down).
It's very fashionable right now to have a strong opinion one way or the other about the Nintendo Wii. Mine is very pro-Wii. Feel free to crib from mine as you plan out what you'll say when inevitably someone asks you, "Hey, what do you think about what Nintendo is doing? Crazy, eh?"
I was wandering around looking for end of the ridiculously long line to get in to the Nintendo booth tour, and as I turned a corner who should I see but my new old friend Destructoid!
I just wanted to provide some incontrovertible photographic evidence that I am really here at E3 and not in some isolation booth deep under the mountains of Colorado....
This is sort of a pre-emptive best, since the game hasn't been released in the U.S. yet. It's called SingStar. For some reason I keep calling it SongStar. Hopefully I didn't call it SongStar too many times as I spoke to Kevin Mason, the game's lead designer and holder of one of the world's most awesome jobs.
I'm in the E3 press room, after a grueling few hours walking the floor, taking pictures, asking questions, and meeting people. I have a story I was researching before E3 to publish in a minute, but before that I just wanted to give you a taste of what I'm seeing. I bumped in to two guys from a video game blog called Destructoid.com. What made me sit down and talk to them was the big robot head they were resting their laptop on.
I'll be blogging from LA for the week, reporting on game and entertainment-related stuff from the massive E3 Expo, and stopping by the Helio offices as well. If you have any suggestions for what to look for at E3, or questions for the Helions, leave them in the comments or send me an e-mail at earthling at corp dot earthlink dot net.
If you use an RSS reader, you can subscribe to a feed of all future entries tagged 'E3'. [What is this?]
