The first batch of Nintendo Wii Consoles hit stores yesterday. A Flickr search for the word "Wii" currently yields over 10,000 photos. Engadget has a wrap-up of how it looked at Nintendo's launch event in New York. It sounds like there were enough left over there so that about a thousand people who hadn't waited in line were still able to nab one.

I've been pining for a Wii ever since I tried it out at E3, but after narrowly missing the ability to pre-order, I'm Wii-less. I hope to track one down as soon as I can.

If you have a Wii launch day story, or first-hand experience bringing one home and firing it up, please let me know about it in the comments below.

And if you're looking for one as well, here are some tips for how you might track one down. Engadget also offers a long list of frequently asked questions answered with first-hand experience.

I pre-ordered my Wii at EB Games Boston a few weeks back and was able to pick it up yesterday. The store did not have a midnight launch because of the madness that happened at Sony Style store on PS3 launch day.
Setting up the Wii was pretty straight forward. I was able to put it all together and have the internet setup all in about 20 minutes. After that, I created my own Mii and started to play Wii sports. It was so much fun. Crazy fun. The Wii-mote is pretty sensitive. It knows how high you're holding it, whether you have it to the side or upside down. The experience was pretty unique and it was something I definitely had to try it out myself to understand. Nothing I've read about the Wii so far explained exactly how it feels. I felt like a kid again. Everything I was doing amazed me. I don't think I've had this much fun playing a video game in a long long time.

Nintendo Wii rocks !
I've heard and read all about it on the blogosphere, but holding a wiimote in my hand and playing the games was just awesome, and the experience was far better than what I had expected.
Played Wii Sports and Trauma center and the motion sensitive wiimote is a lot of fun!
The wii also has a lot of potential with it's community features. I need to play with it more !! Damn work !! :(

I must have a wii before Christmas. MUST.

I crave the wiimoteness :P.

I lucked out in getting mine. Overslept the opening and every
wal-mart, target, toysrus, gamestop, etc were already sold out. I
gave up and around 5:30 went to the local k-mart to look at their
entertainment centers. LOLing, I decided to skip over to the
electronics and ask if they sold consoles here (did kmart sell game
systems?) They said yes. I asked when they expected to get the next
shipments of Wiis in. "Oh, I'm not sure when they'll come in but we
do have one left in stock."

Turns out they had received a shipment of Wii's and management didn't
tell the staff that they had them until around 3pm. I walked happily
away with a new Wii, extra controller, and Zelda. All that and didn't
even have to sleep in the cold.

I have a really bad story about getting one, but with a happy ending. So I was only planning on waiting maybe 5 hours. So I called wal-mart about a week before hand, and they say they're gonna give out vouchers at 10 and give out the wii's at 12. So I called on 11-18 and they say they had changed it to vouchers at 12 and the wii's at 7, still not that bad, get the voucher at 12 go home, sleep for 6 hours, come back and get a wii. I was planning on going at 6 ish, but I called Meijers (my backup plan) and they say that they already have a full line. So its 2:00ish and I'm freaking out so I head straight to Wal-mart to find that a line hasn't started at all. So me and my dad (I'm only 15) wait in the car. Anywho, my dad goes inside at like 3:30 and he sees a lady asking about the Wii. So he notices her, and she notices him noticing her and figures out why and starts the line, if that hadn't happened, we could have stayed in the car till probably 6 or 7. Anyway, at least now we're only 4th in line and we only need to wait till midnight right? Wrong. At 5 or 6, after a line has formed behind us, a lady comes out telling us that the manager had made a decision without telling the employee's to hand out the vouchers at 7. Why, we asked, would he make us wait 16 hours so suddenly? Because of "counter-gauging". Anyways we wanted to reason with him. Too late, he's in ohio and he has the vouchers with him. So we waited for 16 hours in the freesing cold (I'm in Michigan) it sleets once, not fun at all. FINALLY, the store opens, I get the Wii and Call of Duty Thwii (sorry for the terrible pun). And an extra nunchuck (they only had two wiimotes). So now I have my Wii and I'm looking at it right now and it is SOOOOO awesome!!!! HOORAY!!!

Amazon.com says this:

"We sold out of our initial supply of the Wii on Sunday morning, November 19, in less than one minute."

I played Wii Sports on Sunday at my buddy's house and joked that my arms would probably start to hurt from swinging the phantom bat. Well today they started hurting. I will be picking one of these things up.

Honestly, I wasn't willing to wait all night in a line for a Wii. I really, REALLY wanted one but considered that to be a bit extreme. So, first, I spent about 45 minutes waiting in a Circuit City line as I was told CC would be doing a midnight launch. (Luckily, I went and asked. Theirs wouldn’t be until 10 AM the next morning.) In lieu of that, I consigned myself to wait in the Walmart launch line.

So, I went out searching for one with few (or hopefully no) people waiting. All Walmarts (and Best Buys) around me were completely full up. I ended up going to the one closest to me, which already had a good 40 people waiting in line. My hopes of obtaining a Wii fell through the floor, but I decided to wait anyway, trying desperately to cling to hope. After waiting 2 hours, they lined everyone up in order of arrival time, handed out their twenty vouchers, and sent the rest, including myself, home. At this point, I had completely given up all hope of getting one before Christmas and decided to wait until sometime early next year.

Well, on Monday night at 8:20 PM, I got a call from my brother. He said he was at Costco, and they had a flat of 10 Wii Bundle Packs available (containing Zelda and Excite Truck). For the first minute or two I didn’t believe him, but quickly realized he wasn’t just yanking my chain. The only problem was Costco closes at 8:30. So, my dad drives me there as quickly as he can drive and let’s me out at the front door at 8:35. As soon as I got up to the door, they stopped me and refused to let me go any further. My brother saw me and had the cashier go and tell the guards to let me pass as I was there to buy a Wii. I ran with the cashier back up to the counter, got the Wii from my brother (who held one for me, cause he rocks :D ), paid for it, and walked out a happy new owner of a Wii.

I owe it all to my big brother who (even though he really wanted to buy it for himself) made it all possible! You rock, man!

PS – Costco said they a flat of 40 Wii’s had arrived at around 7:30 that evening, and they sold all but those 10 within an hour. And by the time I was done buying mine, there was only about 6 or 7 left.

I did not yet score a Nintendo Wii yet!

I NEED ONE NOW!
