I am deeply saddened by the passing of EarthLink’s President and CEO, Garry Betty, due to complications from cancer. EarthLink’s founder and Helio CEO Sky Dayton put together a heartfelt tribute blog for your and our thoughts, photos, conversation and information at gbetty.earthlink.net. Please consider sharing your memories and photographs there. Thanks to the engineers at Ning and EarthLink for helping to pull it all together.

Memorial arrangements are being made at this time, and Garry’s family has requested that those wishing to pay their respects do so with a donation to The Garry Betty Foundation in lieu of flowers. Donations can be sent to:

I'm praying for your loss. May earthlink always stay strong.

Dave,
my condolences.

Sara

Your prayers are safe with me. How did he die??? If you don't mind me asking.

My prayers go out to the Betty family and the family who knew and worked w/Garry Betty.

Dave, so sorry to hear the news. You all are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.

I am in complete disbelief. I am very saddened by this news and pray for the Betty Family as well as his Family at ELNK. I typically saw him in the hall or elevator but he always greeted me with a smile. What a tremendous loss, my deepest sympathies to all who knew him.

Gary and I met in the 1980' when he was with Hayes Micro Computer. He was one of the most talented people we had ever worked with. I remember our creative meetings in Dennis Hayes hot tub! Always a gentleman with the utmost integrity. Always took my phone calls. He set an example of being a true professional. Our condolence to the family. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord'.

Quite a shock and a great loss. He had a vision and pursued it. He will be greatly missed. We pray that his family will be eased in their pain of his passing.

My prayers go out to Garry's family and friends. Although I did not know him, I am sure it is people like Garry that made me want to stay with Earthlink since 1999.

It was quite a shock to hear of the loss of Gary. I first met him (along with Sky and the ELNK team) when I was an equity analyst in the late 1990's. What struck me was his true humanity, which shown through the obvious admiration that those close to him showed for Gary. There was a genuine love for the man, which I later fully appreciated as I got to know and understand him better over the years. Even during periods of great difficulty, Gary always carried with him that sense of peace and gentleness that I will always remember. He was a true gentleman, and someone who I will always remember fondly.

My prayers are with the Betty family, and with the entire EarthLink team. May God grant you all peace during this time of loss.

If I can be of some help I shall do what I can. again my deep heart condolences to his family. your,s respectfully lnd, nolan wilson. p.s. his family is welcome to contact me if they care to. even if just to have someone to listen to them if they need to talk to help them thru this time. I am sorry to hear that the CEO is gone we will miss her, may God give her a place were only words are spoken.
God Bless Her

Hello,

I did not know Garry well or if you could say at all. But I did hear about him from time to time. Including the Earthlink signed offers that were sent to my household. Got to say from what know about him. The guy really knew where he was taking Earthlink.

It is such a sad tragedy that he died by being "eaten alive". Like any person he would have died sooner or later. Afterall we are here only for so long be it 20, 50 , 70 120 years. But the way he went certainly was painful. Wish his moarning family the best. That whatever family they feel inside to stay strong.

If I lived close would have attended the last goodbye despite of being technically a stranger. Sadly do not live nearby.

He is probably in a better place now at ease and rest.

I was one of Gary's limosine drivers for a brief time in 2005 and a kinder, most compassionate man to one of the littler people in his life: during our drives to the airport I experienced his humor, and humanity -- a gift I will always treasure. My heart goes out to his lovely wife, whom I also had the honor to drive.
